Hudson Catholic High School, which was slated to close its doors in June before alumni banded together to save the school, will go co-ed beginning with the 2009-2010 school year, the Rev. Kevin Hanbury, vicar for education of the Archdiocese of Newark announced in a release today.
Hanbury says going co-ed is essential for the school's future success.
Hudson Catholic has been an all-boys college preparatory school since it opened its doors in the 1960s. However, with fewer options for girls in Hudson County Catholic schools, news that Hudson is going co-ed may help keep girls in Catholic schools who would otherwise have looked elsewhere for a Catholic education or who might have had to consider going to the public schools.
