Perez is on as Mets thump Yanks

THE BRONX — Oliver Perez was the good Oliver Perez tonight.

He pitched 7 2/3 innings of three-hit ball as the Mets beat the Yanks 11-2 Sunday night. Still, again, I just don't understand the need for this over-emphasis on pitch counts. In the 7 2/3 innings he pitched, Perez gave up 2 runs on 3 hits. Why pull him from the game? Let the guy have a chance to get a complete game! Those are more rare than perfect games are these days for crying out loud.

At any rate, it was still good to see the Mets take 2 of 2 from the Yankees. I still want Bobby Valentine here, but I guess it's better to be Willie Randolph today than it is to be Joe Girardi.
